SDSU ASL 301 — ASL IV

Advanced conversational skills, grammatical structures, classifiers, and narrative are covered in ASL Level IV classes. Offering thorough ASL communication while developing vocabulary and fluency, typically encompassing role-shifting, elaborate descriptions, and culturally relevant Deaf concerns, prepares students for more advanced interactions with native/Deaf signers. Taught in American Sign Language (ASL). No credit will be given for lower division courses taken after successfully completing any upper division ASL course taken in ASL. An ASL Level 4 course builds upon previous ASL knowledge by focusing on advanced conversational skills, complex grammatical structures, an in-depth understanding of ASL classifiers, and nuanced storytelling. Allowing students to engage in detailed ASL communication while further refining their vocabulary and fluency, often including topics like role-shifting, detailed descriptions, and culturally significant issues within the Deaf community; essentially preparing them for more advanced interactions with native/Deaf signers; requiring completion of ASL Level 1, 2, and 3 courses with a grade of ¿C¿ or better, or equivalent as a prerequisite.
