SDSU SPAN 181 — Intro Span Heritage Language

First in the sequence of Spanish for Heritage Language Learners track (181, 281, 282, 381). Emphasis on developing listening and speaking skills in the heritage language, understanding and practicing basic grammar, and cultivating positive attitudes towards the heritage language and the heritage culture. Course uses language acquisition skills to help students understand cultural differences and develop a global perspective. Requires exposure to Spanish in the home and neighborhood in the U.S. Not open to native speakers (with high school diploma from a Spanish-speaking country) or students with credit in SPAN 201, SPAN 202, SPAN 211, SPAN 282, SPAN 301, or higher numbered Spanish course. Replaces SPAN 101 and SPAN 102 for Preparation for the Major. Taught in Spanish. Native speakers of Spanish will not receive credit for taking lower division courses in Spanish except with advanced approval from the department. No credit will be given for lower division Spanish language courses taken after successfully completing any upper division Spanish course.
