SDSU MUSIC 508 — Mental Skills for Performance
Study of skills for optimal musical performance. Emphasis on stress management, motivation, focus, resilience, and confidence. Includes journaling, peer discussion, and performance simulations to develop individualized strategies for managing anxiety and enhancing preparation for juries, recitals, and auditions. Recommended preparation: Basic performance experience in solo and ensemble contexts.
Course requirements
Prerequisites: At least one unit of applied music lessons and ensemble participation (MUSIC 170-189 or MUSIC 250A-G or MUSIC 251A-L). For graduate and transfer students, equivalent experience at a previous institution as approved by the instructor.
